From Richard Long to Janet Cardiff - 40 years of Art Walking
Walk-On is curated by Cynthia Morrison-Bell (Art Circuit) and Alistair Robinson (NGCA) in collaboration with Mike Collier of WALK.
Opening: June 1st – August 31st 2013, NGCA Sunderland
This is the first exhibition to examine the astonishingly varied ways in which artists since the late 1960s have used what would seem like a universal act – of taking a walk – as a means to create new types of art. ‘Walk On’ brings together both a major gallery exhibition and a series of new artists’ commissions.
The exhibition is touring to the following venues below and is accompanied by a major publication that critically examines the importance of the relationship of walking to art in the modern and post-modern 'landscape'. The book is edited by Cynthia Morrison- Bell and myself and published by AEN (Arts Editions North).
