Freelance work 1993 onwards

Although I moved into Education in 1993 to teach Art History, I still continued to work as a curator, consultant, exhibition organiser and writer.  For further details of this work, click more information and scroll down below the images.

Although I moved into Education in 1993 to teach Art History, I still continued to work as a curator, consultant, exhibition organiser and writer. I was a consultant for English Heritage, helping to establish the Gymnasium Gallery in Berwick and curating the first year of the exhibition programme there. I was also a project consultant for Silverlink's Arts Programme, curating Peter Randall Page's Give and Take on Newcastle's Quayside as well his exhibition Rocks in my Bed and the accompanying commissioned piece of new music by composer Jim Aitchinson. I sat on Waygood's Programme Editorial Board and curated the installation by Yuko Shiraishi at Waygood (see links at the top right hand side of this page) as well as writing the text for Peter Wolland's exhibition 'Heads'. With Prof. Chris Bailey and Peter Stark, I put together a successful feasibility study for a Centre for Contemporary Art in Carlow, Ireland and I was subsequently the curator for one of their exhibitions. A more detailed list of work I have completed can be found in my CV in the about page. Sometimes my work as a curator and writer combined, as was the case with the exhibition of paintings by Derek Roberts (see below). I continued to work with Silverlink as an Arts Consultant for their new site behind Central Station (the Stephenson Quarter), helping to write their arts strategy with Declan McGonagle and Wendy Scott
